To be a Latino man in America feel burdened by responsibilities. First of all, there's the American prejudice characterizing all Latino men as armed and dangerous. If I choose to shave my head people assume it's a statement rather than a haircut. So it's not just a financial burned but a social burned to deal with.
For example: years ago my father-in law from Texas informed my ex-wife that all the "Mexicans carried guns and knives".
The good part about being a Latino man is the opportunity to came to this beautiful country, because if I'd been female I have been too afraid to risk leaving home as 2 of my sisters never did.
To be a man is to carry a lot of responsibility. I feel it's necessary to support my parents and family left in Mexico.
To be a man I feel free to travel throughout the world, as long as I can afford it.
To be a man I have to respect women. All my teachers except for one have been female. A lot of my closest friends are women. I feel more harmony with women for many of their good qualities such as honesty.
But my appearance often intimidates women, until they know me. When I reincarnate I'd like to be able to have the same experience as a man because of the hardships I've seen women face without Equal rights.
Women suffer too much abuse physically, mentally and emotionally. So I hope in the future the world will change and every country in the world men and women will have the same rights and opportunities.

My five year plan.
Five year plan involves working smarter, not harder. I am not as young as I used to be.
Soon I will no longer be able to continue working as a laborer because of the extreme physical demands. Today I was in my refreshment class for Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response and I was sitting with all these white, professional people (no offense) feeling somewhat intimidated because I didn't have a similar title, or education that they had. Practically everyone represented themselves with a little. but when I introduced myself, I only say "I work for King County." The instructor say "what do you do?" and the only thing I can say was Haz-mat Technicial, and could not say anything else.
So this is why I need to develop a 5 year plan for the future. And I am going to separate my life into 2 parts: travel + Study. These are my priorities. I don't know what I'll accomplish, but at least it's a beginning, something to shoot for.
My travel plan involves going to Hawaii in November next May going to Florida, and 2014 spending a month in Brazil to attend the world Cup.My 5 year plan for study involves striving to educate myself so I can became an L&I inspector or at least a Latino instructor in the construction field. To inform others in Spanish about the chemical hazards and the importance of protection.

La Llorona
La Llorona (The Waling Woman) Who was la Llorona, and why does she cry? It was a long, long time ago in the epoch of the Conquistadores when there was a native woman who fell in love with a Spanish gentleman. They began a life together and they had 3 children, but he never married her. Always giving her an excuse to avoid marriage.
After some time the man left her for a lady from Spain because it was more advantageous for him. When she discovered his betrayal she lost her mind and drowned their three children in the river for revenge. After she realized what she'd done she also killed herself, and since then her ghost has wandered restlessly without peace and people can hear her screaming and wailing at night grieving for her children.
Sometimes people see her near the rivers, or they feel a shadow passing over them. So when I was a child my mother warned me if I misbehaved La Llorona would come and take me away with her.

Driving
Driving is the main subject of my pet peeves. It drives me crazy when people honk, that is a major source of my irritation. Especially in areas like Mexico City, people are honking all the time, and pedestrians have to run for their lives to cross the street.
Another thing that irritates me about how people drive is how closely they follow, dangerously close, trying to kiss the bumper.
I also hate it when people drive with their high beams on at night, blinding me temporarily, over and over again. People who drive too slowly, test my patience to the opposite extreme. I could continue for hours listing many more minor irritations that afflict me, but I'll stop here.

My perfect day
For me my perfect day includes sunshine and a good cup of coffee. Also getting up late and having a relaxing and peacefully morning.Another ingredients that I want to include in my list are:watching a soccer game, driving to the mountains, going out to see an interesting movie and having a good dinner with my friends.
So I can continue putting more ideas in my list, but for now I think these are a lot for one perfect day.
My summer vacation
Last month I went to Dallas and San Antonio TX. The best experience about this trip was having the opportunity to see the landscape and the many contrasts. It was hot as a sauna, with rolling hills and no mountains, like here in WA. I drove hundreds of miles back and forth between the two major cities. I went to visit my younger sister and her family in Irvin TX, who I hadn't seen in 7 years, so it was a happy reunion. After I spent a few days with them then I went back to San Antonio and met up with some other friends, I went to see the alamo, the tower or the Americas, and hug around downtown , which I felt was very interesting place with a river intersecting it. The worst part was staging in shabby hotels with nasty old carpet and bugs.
On my way back my flight was cancelled due to a tornado. I had to wait in line for five hours to obtain a new ticket to Seattle. I had to stay in Denver for almost two days just waiting around. Finally I got a new flight, which of course had to stop in Portland. It was like riding the bus from Mexico to Seattle, just exhausting.
I was so tired when I got home, but still grateful I was able to go. So, that was my story about my Summer vacation.

Welcome to my blog!
Hello,
My name is Sergio, I'm originally from Mexico. This is my 2nd quarter in this class. I'd like to welcome everyone who is new here.
I really like this class because our professor Liz is so creative in her approach. I hope that I can continue to learn a lot along with all of you, and that it continues to be an enjoyable experience.
